Keeping the dignity of the ancestral altar in every Vietnamese home

It began with a small shop in District 6, in the heart of Chợ Lớn, where my mother has tended altar goods for the better part of thirty years. In all that time behind the counter, she has come to know every incense burner set, every crane's posture, every grain of wood by heart — and the faces of so many families who stop by to choose pieces for death anniversaries, for Tet, for moving into a new home.

To my mother, selling altar goods is not like selling ordinary merchandise. An altar — whether for the God of Wealth, for Guan Yin, or for one's forebears — is where devotion is placed, so whatever sits upon it must be done with care, with propriety, and with a sincere heart. Some customers come in set on the biggest, grandest piece; she'll gently point them to the one that actually fits their altar instead — because what makes a piece right is how well it fits and suits the space, not what it costs.

I grew up alongside that shop. As people gradually grew used to shopping online, I wanted to carry my mother's devotion to the craft to more families — including those of you far away who have never visited the shop. That is why this website came to be.
